Saturday night, August 8th, 2009, Clitheroe’s Last Night of the Proms and a splendid evening of picnics, flag waving and sing-a-long favourites, featuring songs from the musicals Mama Mia, Les Miserables and Jesus Christ Superstar. Clitheroe Town Band and Ribble Valley Choir were in fine form, buoyed on by a large enthusiastic audience and some fine weather. Ribble Valley MP, Nigel Evans was their as was a large contingent of Ribble Valley Mayors and as warm sunny day quickly turned to balmy star filled night the band and choir concluded with perennial crowd favourites Land of Hope and Glory, Rule Britannia and Jerusalem. A splendid evening that should encourage the local ‘powers-that-be’ to consider hosting more of these large public feel-good events for both residents and visitors. Words and pictures - David Cawley
